Additional Dan in Real Life Information

In the tradition of Simon & Garfunkel's The Graduate and Cat Stevens' music for Harold and Maude, Sondre Lerche's Dan in Real Life finds the Norwegian sensation lending his coy, almost precious, touch to this movie's soundtrack. Several tracks are plucked from Lerche's back catalogue, including "Modern Nature" (2002's Faces Down), the Elvis Costello-penned "Human Hands" (2006's Duper Sessions), and "Airport Taxi Reception" (2007's Phantom Punch). These and the seven instrumental cue tracks form the matrix surrounding the four originals, among them a smarmy, beautiful duet with Regina Spektor, whose dulcet voice plays ideal foil to Lerche's own. "I'll Be OK" mimics the aw-shucks charisma of every character lead actor Steve Carell plays, offering inspired proof of director Peter Hedges' wisdom in handing the project to Lerche. Elsewhere, a string-heavy cover of Pete Townshend's seminal "Let My Love Open the Door" provides a memorable highlight. Hedges postulates in the liner notes that perhaps the film was made "so more of the world can hear [Lerche's] music," and certainly, this album provides an enticing vehicle for newcomers to his wavering vibrato, saccharine falsetto, and all too genteel songwriting, though existing Lerche fans may lament the relative shortage of new material here. --Jason Kirk

What Customers Say About Dan in Real Life:

Don't expect to hear all different kinds of artist. I just love this cd. I'd never heard of the guy, but while watching the movie I remembered thinking that it would make a cool soundtrack. It's mostly just 1 guy, but he's doing a great job. Plus I really like his voice and the duets with Regina Spektor.

I loved the movie and soundtrack to "Dan In Real Life" - a very happy story with great characters. And having the music enables me to enjoy those great feelings everytime I play the CD. Thanks, Amazon, for the excellent service and quality of your products.

His falsettos makes listening to his voice almost natural. It's sad that alot of times that most of the music from films are not captured in the CD release of soundtracks. I can only remember that "Little Miss Sunshine" soundtrack was as memorable as this soundtrack. Also, I love all the band, piano, and guitars as well. "Dan in Real Life" captures pretty much all the music from the film. It introduces us to Sondre Lerche who is now one of my favorites. The tunes just flow out like a breeze for easy listening. Here are some the highlights that are my personal favorites in no particular order.1) Human Hands- I never grow tire of this tune since it just reminds me of the football scene with Dan and Marie.2) Let My Love Open the Door- I just love the strings especially the end with the climatic ending.3) Hell No- Regina Spektor makes this especially fun with its teasing call and answer with Sondre Lerche.

Miss listening to it. Simply delighful. Loaned it to my boss and never got it back. Gonna have to track it down. =D=

I agree with a previous reviewer that it was somewhat disappointing that the film version of "Let My Love Open The Door" was not a part of this but Lerche's version is okay. It was only after seeing the movie that I even became aware of the artist Sondre Lerche. For me the music was so much a part of the film (which I loved) that I had to do some on line research about the soundtrack. The lack of that song as it appeared in the film is the only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars. I listen to this CD almost daily and it always brings a smile to my face.
